Whilst studying at college, Ivan decided that an Apprenticeship would be the next step for him, wanting to continue learning practically whilst still building his academic portfolio. With achieving qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Multi-Skills in Construction; Ivan was set on developing a career in construction or engineering.

When seeking opportunities online, Ivan came across a Project Management role as part of the Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, which is supported by some of Heathrow’s leading contractors. This opportunity seemed perfect for Ivan and immediately, he wanted to know more. Ivan wanted to work at Heathrow, being aware about the extensive range of opportunities available and after being referred to the Academy and being put in contact with the Shared Apprenticeship Scheme Manager, Ivan found himself successful in the achieving the role.

During his Apprenticeship, Ivan began to struggle with his assignments from his workshops and found balancing time with work and studying a challenge. Despite the struggle, Ivan knew he could master the balance and after asking for help, found himself progressing.

Since joining the scheme, Ivan has gained a significant amount of skills in management and taking on new responsibilities, as well as improving his organisation and Health & Safety knowledge. Most importantly, Ivan “feels good” about working and enjoys his role within the scheme.

Looking back at his journey, Ivan is proud of how far he has come and his determination to build a career for himself, which is now in sight. Ivan explains that when you put your head down and focus on your goals, “you will do well” and he is passionate about progressing in the career ladder by accomplishing more goals. Thanks to his Apprenticeship, Ivan now has a head start.
