Simrandeep knew from an early age he wanted to one day be an electrician. He started with deconstructing (and reconstructing!) his toys and progressed to eventually fixing things around the house for his mum. After leaving school, Simrandeep went to college and began his studies. He successfully achieved his Electrical Installation Level 1 and 2, but in order to become fully qualified, he needed hands-on experience in a business. Driving home one day he saw an ‘Apprenticeships’ sign on the Academy building and soon after enrolled with their Recruitment team.
Recruitment Officer Demaro worked with Simrandeep to secure an interview with one of the construction firms the Academy work with Dyer & Butler Electrical. Simrandeep was excited but also a little nervous, he explains “I would often freeze and forget what I’m meant to say in interviews, but Demaro gave me loads of great tips and did mock interviews with me so I felt confident going into this one.” Simrandeep was successful in his interview and started his Apprenticeship with Dyer & Butler Electrical working across all terminals at Heathrow Airport. He says he couldn’t have done it without the support of Demaro and the team at the Academy.
“I love working at the Airport. I’m currently working with the team on a big project replacing all of the lights and electric cables on the runways. It’s a massive responsibility and health and safety is very important. My family are all really proud of me.”
