From drudgery to dreams
Bijay finally finds his ideal role after years of hard work and study
Bijay comes from a family who are very proud of their heritage. His grandfather
is one of four generations of Gurkha who served in the British Army, so taking pride in what you do is a trait that runs throughout his family. It was this pride that attracted Bijay to work at Heathrow Airport. “It doesn’t matter where you go in the world, people have always heard of Heathrow Airport and know what it stands for. My family are really proud that I work at one of the most famous airports in the world” he explains. Bijay, who lives in the Borough of Ealing, approached the Heathrow Academy, having achieved an MBA in Business Administration from Anglia Ruskin University, with a view to developing his career.
Bijay who speaks five languages, was working in a hotel but he felt he wasn’t challenged enough and everyday could seem the same. “I wanted to be in a role where I can grow and achieve my dreams” he explains. Bijay met with an Academy Recruitment Officer, who recognised his potential and enrolled him on the Pre-employment Training. Bijay’s confidence grew and shortly afterwards the recruitment team recommended him to Ca’puccino General Manager, Himani. “I had no hesitation in taking Bijay on. The Heathrow Academy team prepare people really well so Bijay hit the ground running. He’s incredibly dedicated and I have high hopes for him” says Himani.
“The Pre-employment Training is fantastic. You get all of the support you need and the team really care about your progress. Heathrow Academy certainly gave me opportunities I wouldn’t have had before. I love working in customer service and in only a year I have increased responsibility and have further opportunities for promotion.”
