Inspiring Future Engineers: Engineering Insights Week Returns to Heathrow
Last week, Heathrow proudly hosted another successful Engineering Insights Week, welcoming local students for an immersive experience designed to spark curiosity and inspire future careers in engineering.
The programme gave students a unique opportunity to hear directly from our engineering colleagues, including current graduates and apprentices, who shared their journeys and insights into the diverse roles available across Heathrow.
From mechanical and electrical engineering to systems and infrastructure, participants gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to keep one of the world’s busiest airports running smoothly.
Throughout the week, students took part in:
-
Interactive talks from our Engineering graduates and apprentices
-
Guided tours of key operational areas including baggage systems, terminals, pods, remote sites, the control tower, and APOC (Airport Operations Centre)
-
Mock interviews to help students build confidence and prepare for future job applications
The feedback from students was positive, showing the benefits of this initiative. One participant shared: “The best part of the experience really was the access to the current graduates and apprentice engineers. We were really able to ask lots of questions and get a good understanding of the programme and Heathrow.”
Another student commented:
“Having both apprentices and graduates on this Insights Week was a brilliant idea. It really gave us a view of both sides and helped us understand the two different paths and the pros and cons.”
Engineering Insights Week is part of Heathrow’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and talent development. By opening our doors and sharing our expertise, we hope to inspire the next generation of engineers who will help shape the future of aviation!
Keep an eye out for the next Engineering Insights Week which will take place in October!
