Managing Quantity Surveyor

About The Role

M Group is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Aviation Heathrow team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the commercial management of complex infrastructure projects while supporting the development of both project teams and junior surveyors

Working closely with the Commercial Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably, efficiently, and in line with contractual obligations. You'll provide commercial leadership across a diverse portfolio of works while building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and delivery teams

 

Job Responsibilities

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will:

  •  Support the Commercial Manager in delivering commercial services effectively and consistently across multiple projects
  • Lead the commercial and financial management of projects, ensuring delivery within budget and to required standards
  • Oversee cost management, contract administration, procurement activities, and financial controls
  • Prepare and review financial reporting, cost reconciliations, forecasts, and progress reports
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks, including cost overruns, claims, and project delays
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, including APC candidates
  • Promote a strong culture of contractual and commercial awareness across project teams
  • Support work-winning activities, resource planning, and collaboration with pre-contract teams
  • Work with Contract Services teams to resolve disputes and support Insurance teams with recovery opportunities
  • Participate in project reviews and executive meetings to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to group-wide initiatives, behavioural programmes, and compliance with legal, governance, and audit requirements

About You

You are a commercially driven professional with significant experience in Quantity Surveying and a proven ability to lead commercial functions on complex projects. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, can confidently influence stakeholders at all levels, and have a strong track record of delivering commercial objectives while developing high-performing teams

With excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, you're passionate about driving best practice and achieving successful project outcomes

What You'll Bring

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • MRICS or CICES accreditation is preferred
  • Experience working on civil engineering schemes or within safety-critical environments such as aviation, rail, or highways
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge with the ability to negotiate favourable outcomes
  • Experience resolving commercial disputes and managing project risk
  • Proficiency in cost estimation techniques and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills
  • Experience providing specialist Quantity Surveying advice on large and complex projects
  • A proven track record of managing and developing teams to achieve commercial objectives
  • The ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams
